NEWS: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sugar Rush offers a night of fun and desserts to benefit a local charity
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Nov. 11, 2010 —Drury University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), along with local business The Cake Pop Company will host Sugar Rush, a charity dessert sampling event at the Veridian Event Center from 6:30-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
All proceeds will go to benefit Care to Learn, an organization that provides immediate funding and action to meet any emergent health, hunger, or hygiene issue and restore a child’s self-respect so they can get back in the classroom.
Sugar Rush offers an evening of socializing and delicious desserts. Attendees will be able to sample desserts from 24 different local businesses including Big Momma’s, Big Whiskey’s, The Cake Pop Company, Cook’s Kettle, Dixie’s Country Cookin’, Einstein Bros Bagels, Farmer’s Gastropub, Fedora, Fire and Ice, Flame, Fria, Gelato Mio, Heroes Coffee, Nonna’s Café, Parlor 88, Peace of Cake Bakery, Ruby Tuesday, Savor, Smith’s, Supreme Bakery, Tea Bar and Bites Bakery and Café, The Cup, Touch, and Uncle Lloyd’s Cookie Company.
The idea for the event originated with Deb Lumos, owner of The Cake Pop Company. “As a business owner, it has always been important for me to give back to the community that has supported me. I came up with the idea of Sugar Rush while planning a girl’s night out with friends and knew that it was a perfect avenue to help. I could not have done it without partnering with Drury SIFE. It is so thrilling to see the first annual Sugar Rush come to life and exciting to have Care to Learn benefit from this event.”
Upon hearing of the idea, Drury SIFE immediately started planning. “It was a wonderful idea and we knew we wanted to be a part of it from the get go. Not only do we get the opportunity to help local children affected by poverty, but build awareness for the local participating businesses,” said Sarah Montgomery, director of Drury SIFE.
Tickets are $10 for teachers and students and $15 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at all participating businesses, Care to Learn and the Drury SIFE office inside the Breech School of Business located at the corner of Central Street and Drury Lane. The Veridian Event Center is located in downtown Springfield on South Street.
