The final Matriculation Convocation for Drury President Todd Parnell is Thursday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., August 22, 2012 — On Thursday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m., Drury’s new students will experience a rite of their early college lives at the Matriculation Convocation in Clara Thompson Hall. It will be the final Matriculation Convocation for Drury President Todd Parnell who will retire in May of 2013. Parnell, the author of several books, will ask the students to consider nature as a technology alternative.

Drury President Todd Parnell

Today, we are tethered to our smartphones and computers, always plugged in trying to keep up with the latest news and happenings. But nature is our lasting legacy; we should consider unplugging on occasion and reclaim our humanity.

Drury University’s 2012-2013 Theme Year series, Voices Unbound: Social Media and the Future of Democracy, is devoted to exploring how media and technology are changing the way we communicate and interact, and the implications for journalism and democracy.

All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. For more details about speakers visit or contact Theme Year Director Dr. Jonathan Groves at (417) 873-7347.
