A Drury professor studies baptismal fonts of the Middle Ages
When most people think about fonts, Times New Roman and Garamond may come to mind, but one Drury professor is interested in a different type of font used long ago, baptismal fonts. Drury Art History Professor Tom Russo has received a $4,500 grant from Yale University’s Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (London) to research a previously unknown group of baptismal fonts from the Middle Ages. Drury scholars program earns a large grant from the state
In 2008 three Drury professors had an idea to offer a summer college enrichment program to African-American boys in the Drury neighborhood. That program for seventh and eighth graders began with about 15 boys; now, five years later, it annually serves about 50 African-American boys and girls. This week, the Missouri Department of Higher Education recognized the success of that program with a College Access Challenge Grant for $84,511. Continue reading

Drury’s library gets a valuable collection of science and religion books
Drury’s F. W. Olin Library has been awarded a grant from the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR) for a library collection worth more than $9,000. Drury joins a select group of only 150 institutions worldwide to receive an award from ISSR. The ISSR Library grant at Drury consists of 224 volumes spanning all areas of the interface between science and spirituality. Continue reading
Drury University receives grants to benefit Monett campus
Drury University’s Monett campus has received $16,550 in grant money from the Bess Spiva Timmons Foundation ($8,000) and the BNSF Foundation ($8,550). The grant money will be used for the development of a “high technology” classroom, as well as to advance the Monett campus’s Hispanic Initiative. Continue reading

Drury professors help the 39th Judicial Circuit receive a federal grant
The 39th Judicial Circuit, which serves Barry, Lawrence, and Stone counties, received one of eight 3-year grants for a total of approximately $963,000 from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Shawn Billings, an alumnus of the Drury Department of Behavioral Sciences’ graduate program in Criminology and Criminal Justice, worked with department members Dr. Jana Bufkin and Dr. Vickie Luttrell to submit the grant and he will serve as the project director. Drs. Bufkin and Luttrell will serve as project evaluators. Continue reading
