SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Feb. 22, 2012 —Kappa Delta Sorority at Drury University will host Shamrockin’ the Roads, a charity run/walk, on Saturday, March 10 at 8 a.m. at Drury. The event will benefit Isabel’s House and Prevent Child Abuse America. Shamrockin’ the Roads is open to runners and walkers of all abilities and includes a 5K run/walk, a 10K run and a one-mile kids’ fun run. All of the runs will begin at the Fountain Circle at the north end of Drury Lane.
Of the proceeds collected from Shamrockin’ the Roads, 80 percent will remain in Springfield, Missouri, benefiting Isabel’s House, Crisis Nursery of the Ozarks. The remaining 20 percent will go to Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA) for nationwide public awareness programs. Child abuse rates in Greene County are more than five times the national average with a total of 63.4 reported cases per 1000 children; due to these staggering numbers, Kappa Delta sorority chose Isabel’s House as its local philanthropy. According to its website, the mission of Isabel’s House is to “provide immediate refuge for children ages birth to 12 whose families are in crisis.”
“We are excited to host a brand new event and we hope to raise more money for Isabel’s House than we did last year. Our goal for 2012 is more than $1,100 to exceed what we raised last year,” said Kaylee Wedgeworth, a senior member of Kappa Delta sorority at Drury.
Those interested in participating in Shamrockin’ the Roads can register online at www.drurykd.org. The deadline for early registration is Feb. 25. Early registration fees are $10 for the kids’ run, $15 for the 5K walk/run, and $20 for the 10K run. By registering early, participants will also receive a free t-shirt. Registration is open through the morning of the race, but those registering after Feb. 25 will be charged an extra $5 per entry.
