SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Jan. 30, 2012 — The Drury on C-Street Art Gallery will host an opening for their latest exhibit: Sweetheart Art on Friday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. The gallery, which is located at 233 E. Commercial St., will be on display Feb. 3-25. Gallery hours are Wed.-Sat., noon-5 p.m.
Sweetheart Art showcases paintings, sculptures, jewelry and more by talented local artists and Drury students alike. Another new addition to the gallery is the gift shop, which features a wide variety of products, including jewelry, handmade cards and other gifts. “I’m most excited about our handcrafted jewelry display,” said Stephanie Weddell, gallery manager. “Now is the perfect time to buy one-of-a-kind jewelry for that special person in your life.”
In addition to the new exhibit, Drury students have been decorating the gallery to capture the essence of Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s themed desserts will be served to gallery visitors on the night of the opening, while Drury student Laura Dickinson will serenade guests with jazz standards from 7-9 p.m.
The Drury on C-Street Project is an initiative by Drury University, in partnership with other local organizations, to establish a Drury Center on Commercial Street. This center includes an art gallery, a business resource center, space for weaving looms, an architecture classroom and a multi-use area for additional classes and seminars.
